Solicit resources on "the principles of design" from Lydia -specifically the rule of thirds. Imagine there are two vertical and two horizontal lines running through each frame and put interesting things along those lines or at their intersections. Try putting the most interesting subject anywhere but the center. If you're shooting a person -make their eye or eyes the focus.
